Overview

We work hand in hand with our planning and property colleagues to deliver, as one team, the support our clients need throughout the construction lifecycle – from inception and identifying the best project delivery methodology, to drafting and negotiating contracts, through to day-to-day contract administration of complex construction projects.

Our Construction & Engineering team have the expertise to combine their legal knowledge with longstanding industry insight. They are adept at delivering practical solutions gained from years of experience in procuring and delivering building and infrastructure assets. Our team’s expertise spans:

• Construction project procurement – We work as one team with clients and their advisors to identify delivery methodologies that achieve project goals. We prepare and negotiate project documents of all types, including traditional design and construct contract suites and innovative alliance models. Regardless of the model, lessons learned from our dispute work and judicial approaches to construction law and contract interpretation are integrated in our advice and deliverables. 
   
• Risk assessment, allocation and management – Risk identification and allocation underpin effective contract negotiation. Our advice on risk allocation is direct, practical, commercial and consistent with our clients' risk appetite, and the project’s unique risk profile. We often assist clients to review and update contract suites to reflect current legislative requirements and case law in all states and territories. 
   
• Contract administration – Our role often includes assisting our clients' team to confidently identify and manage the issues that typically arise in contract administration, and we are always on standby to field questions.
