Overview
Shehan is an experienced practitioner who has represented insurers and their clients in litigated and contentious matters across a broad range of sectors including construction, property, environmental and professional services.
His expertise includes acting in matters involving claims against insureds for alleged professional negligence, misrepresentation and statutory breaches. Shehan has advised on complex matters involving material damage issues arising out of the Kaikoura and Canterbury Earthquake Sequences in New Zealand, fraud, and advising insurers in respect of liability, indemnity, policy interpretation and response.
Shehan has significant practical experience having appeared in the High Court, District Court and tribunals in New Zealand and has experience with various alternative dispute resolution forums.
In addition to his Bachelor of Laws from the Victoria University of Wellington, Shehan holds a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) degree from Otago University. Shehan was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in the High Court of New Zealand in 2015 and admitted in Victoria on 7 August 2023.
