Construction risk insurance

Overview

We advise on construction-related claims ranging from those involving multibillion infrastructure projects,  large industrial and commercial projects to domestic dwellings. We have been at the forefront of the cladding crisis since its emergence, including defending landmark actions such as the Lacrosse building in Melbourne’s Docklands and advising on remediation projects.  We are regularly trusted by project insurers for their most complex and substantial infrastructure disputes, ranging from tunnel/highway projects, through to rail and energy infrastructure such as desalination plants, gas pipelines and wind and solar farms.

In managing the significant exposures associated with construction risk for insureds and insurers, our team combines technical legal expertise with a deep understanding of joint ventures, alliances and project-specific requirements.

Our construction team typically acts in professional indemnity matters for all types of construction professionals, including engineers, architects, builders, surveyors, geotechnical engineers, pest inspectors, quantity surveyors, project managers, construction managers and accredited certifiers.

We also advise on claims and coverage under contract works, industrial special risks (ISR) and third-party property liability policies. We advise on issues spanning material damage, defects and exclusions, as well as the complex interplay between policy types.

Our experience is in defence of claims as well as in acting for insurers dealing with mitigation claims.  We are very used to acting for JVs and count most major insurers and Australian and global engineering firms as clients.
