A member of our insurance team since 2014, Shannon focuses on insurance litigation, with particular expertise in professional indemnity, including coverage disputes and large-scale construction, mining and engineering matters as well as cyber risks.


Overview

Shannon provides advice and manages litigation for a wide range of leading Australian insurers, the London market and various Australian cover holders and agents of the London market.

Shannon has also acted in the defence of claims against various professionals in the construction, mining, property and insolvency sectors, including on behalf of engineers, architects, project managers, private certifiers, valuers, real estate agents, accountants and receivers.

Shannon regularly advises insurers of their rights and obligations under insurance policies in relation to property losses, professional indemnity, third party damage, and project specific claims. These analyses often involve consideration of complex contractual and tortious matters.

Shannon is also a member of the Technology & Data team. He has experience managing cyber breaches across four separate cyber insurance facilities. In this role he has successfully dealt with ransomware attacks, social engineering fraud, unlawful access and malware attacks. He has also managed cyber claims and related coverage issues while on secondment at a large international insurance company. 

With a Bachelor of Communication (Public Relations) in addition to his Bachelor of Laws, Shannon was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of NSW on 5 April 2013, and is also admitted in the Federal Court and High Court of Australia.

An active participant in the Australian insurance industry, Shannon is a national committee member of the Australian Professional Indemnity Group and the Australian Insurance Law Association.
