Kate Emanuel
Senior Associate
A Senior Associate in Colin Biggers & Paisley's insurance team since 2025, Kate works as coverage and defence counsel for some of Australia's largest insurers and financial services providers.
Overview
Kate is experienced in acting as coverage counsel for large insurers in complex directors and officers (D&O) claims, including shareholder class actions and large scale corporate insolvencies in sectors ranging from banking, logistics, construction and mining.
She also works as defence counsel in professional indemnity matters, primarily relating to claims against financial services providers. She has experience managing claims litigated in state and territory courts and through the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
Kate also works with faith based institutions and schools on child safeguarding matters, and advises on risk management and compliance with child protection regulations, and provides assistance with internal investigations.
In addition to her work at Colin Biggers & Paisley, Kate has provided pro bono legal services to the Marrickville Legal Centre, Redfern Legal Centre and Legal Aid ACT.
Kate holds a Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor from the Australian National University, and was awarded the University Medal in Law. She was admitted to practice in New South Wales on 14 August 2020.
