Overview
For more than 20 years, our Institutional Risk & Liability team has been entrusted to manage highly sensitive matters for faith-based enterprises, foster care agencies, health and aged care providers, not-for-profits and educational institutions, and their insurers.
With dignity and compassion, our team helps clients resolve historical abuse claims, conduct investigations, prepare for public inquiries, manage risk and achieve compliance. In doing so, we consider all parties including the survivor(s), their families, and the institution’s current and former staff and representatives.
Our approach involves undertaking a thorough investigation to gather evidence to properly assess the risk of each claim. We focus on resolving matters as early as possible to minimise the trauma to survivors and other parties, and to avoid the costs associated with protracted litigation. We also pragmatically address risk management and compliance by helping our clients put in place appropriate policies, procedures and systems.
Our Institutional Risk & Liability team understands the relevant compliance regimes, including those relating to child safety. We are always up to date with relevant national developments in civil and criminal legislation, regulations and case law.
