Credit Supervisor

Key Accountabilities:
  • Work closely with the Financial Controller to monitor WIP, Debtors and Cash Collections.
  • Work closely with the Partners to develop collaborative solutions to reduce lock up days and improve cash flow.
  • Be open to new developments and innovations. Respond quickly and efficiently to ad-hoc work requests.
  • Review billing write offs, unbilled disbursements account balances and disbursements written off on a monthly basis and investigate any significant movements and report to management.
  • Manage the asset certification process as part of the annual audit and year end processes.  
Provide leadership and set priorities  
  • Provide strong leadership, have responsibility for the development and performance of the credit team.
  • Set collection targets for each group and for the controllers
  • Manage credit risk - invoice reversals, unbillable WIP and uncollectable debt.
  • Manage the firms metrics for DSO (85 days) and Outstanding Debtors (21% of total revenue on an R12) by delivering reports and analytics. 
Client, Commercial and Relationship Management  
  • Regularly meet with Partners to review and discuss WIP, Disbursement & Debt balances. Agree on which matters will be billed in the current month and highlight any credit control issues where Partner intervention is required.
  • Work with the Billing Team to ensure pledged bills materialise at the earliest opportunity, and that they are accurate, rendered on time and adhere to client agreements.
  • Influence Partners to allow normal debt-chasing processes on all their bills.
  • Follow up payment of all outstanding invoices in a timely manner and ensure that all credit control queries/disputes are resolved without delay to unlock debts as quickly as possible.
  • Review unbilled disbursements balances and agitate for billing, when appropriate.
Process improvement and training
  • Ensure that new e-bill clients and platforms are onboarded efficiently and requirements are communicated to the business.
  • Investigate and respond to enquiries from clients, partners and fee earners relating to financial aspects of client matters.
  • Provide financial/commercial training to fee earner groups.
  • Oversee and monitor the effectiveness of the end to end matter and client financial lifecycle, initiating improvements to enhance the quality of service and seek efficiencies (especially as part of CBP's new business intake process).
Essential Competencies: 
  • Five years or more experience in a similar role with ideally at least three years working capital experience.
  • Commercial mindset, results driven with a proactive and goal orientated approach to decision making.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills both written and verbal including Excel (Intermediate / Advanced) and PowerPoint (Intermediate).
  • Experience in using technology to drive change and efficiencies.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities and varied workloads.
  • Ability to influence at the highest level as a credible, fast-thinking, collaborative and proactive individual.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills including, coaching, development and mentoring.
  • Demonstrate a hands-on approach and success in working in a team based environment.
Desirable
  • Experience of Elite 3E a distinct advantage but not essential.
  • Experience of a partnership environment would be very advantageous.
