John Douglas is a special counsel in the Property & Development group. With over 19 years of experience in commercial property law, John possesses specific expertise in commercial, industrial, and retail leasing, as well as property acquisition and disposal.
Overview
He has acted for a broad range of clients, including listed global companies as tenants, high-net- worth private corporation landlords with substantial landholdings, real estate investment trust landlords, and Commonwealth and State government departments (as both tenants and landlords).
Throughout his career, John has consistently represented both landlords and tenants, providing him with a deep understanding of leasing transactions from different perspectives. This comprehensive insight ensures his advice in leasing transactions is both thorough and commercially viable.
John was listed in the 2024 and 2025 editions of The Best Lawyers in Australia for his expertise in real property law. He is admitted to practice in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory and holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Education degree, and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree.
