With a practice focused on financial lines claims and employment and safety, Cathryn is passionate about working collaboratively with her clients to devise clear strategic solutions for claims and disputes that they face. She is also the joint Practice Leader of the Insurance group.
Overview
Cathryn acts for insured professionals and entities in defence of claims arising under professional indemnity, D&O and management liability policies, as well as providing complex coverage advice for Australian insurers and the London market.
She defends construction professionals, architects, accountants, tax agents, financial advisers, insurance brokers, education providers, local councils, estate agents, valuers and healthcare and pharma professionals.
Through property and title insurers, Cathryn acts in multiparty long tail property-related proceedings including business interruption claims and complex mortgage recoveries involving fraud. Cathryn has been advising insurers on coverage in the context of their exposure from the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
Cathryn also oversees a busy employment practice. She acts for employers in unfair dismissal, general protections, discrimination, underpayment of entitlements, OHS and other workplace-related disputes, and advises on termination, redundancy, employment contracts, sub-contractor arrangements and best practice workplace policies.
In the 2025 edition of The Best Lawyers in Australia, Cathryn was recognised in the areas of Occupational Health and Safety Law, Insurance Law, Professional Malpractice Litigation and Education Law.
Cathryn is a former president of the Victorian APIG Committee, and is a current board member of the national charity, The Kids Cancer Project.
Cathryn completed a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours). She was admitted to practice in Victoria and the High Court of Australia in 2004.
