His regulatory expertise allows him to provide clear, practical advice, to his clients in financial services, banking and payments, insurance, reinsurance, capital markets, credit, funds and managed investment funds, discretionary funds management, private health funds and mutuals. 

His practice has three distinct areas of focus across investment, banking, insurance and fintech which covers corporate and commercial legal advice; regulatory and governance advice; and engagement with market regulators.

Michael leverages his extensive financial services industry knowledge and regulatory expertise to provide clear, pragmatic corporate and commercial legal advice, ensuring his clients successfully navigate the complex financial services landscape with confidence and precision and to efficiently deliver their services, products and associated technology. He works with banks, non-bank financial institutions, insurers and reinsurers, financial services providers including fintech and digital providers and intermediaries such as brokers and dealers, payment system operators, private health funds, banking and insurance mutuals.

Michael also has specialist expertise in prudential regulation, governance and regulatory investigations and he often advises boards on director liability, directors' and officers' risk, insurance coverage and financial services regulatory and licensing and product compliance.

Michael has considerable experience engaging with regulators such as ASIC, APRA, ASX, Treasury and Department of Health and has guided clients through their interaction with these regulators whether it relates to compliance, investigations or responding to a regulatory or prudential directive.

He has been recognised by The Best Lawyers in Australia each year since 2017 for his expertise in Commercial Law. He has also been listed as a leading lawyer in range of legal industry directories over his decades of practice including AsiaLaw Profiles for Insurance and M&A and in Legal 500 for Fintech And Financial Services Regulatory.

Michael was admitted to practice in the High Court of Australia, the Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of New South Wales on 19 December 1986. Michael holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Jurisprudence.
