Chris is a highly regarded property insurance and recoveries lawyer, with experience acting for domestic and London Market insurers. He advises on intricate coverage and defence of first party property claims, and on complex recoveries, including in the construction and infrastructure space.
Overview
Chris has worked across a range of matters involving business interruption, industrial special risk, arson and fire damage, flooding and water damage, and fraud. With 25 years in practice, he has strong experience in commercial and insurance litigation in Australia and South Africa. He has worked with organisations across industries including building and construction, banking, energy, infrastructure, transport and logistics, and medical and pharmaceutical.
Chris has extensive experience in adjudication, mediation, arbitration, litigation, negotiated settlement, and forensic investigations. He is a trusted advisor in high-stakes matters.
Complementing his insurance experience, during his career Chris has represented clients in a wide range of commercial disputes involving contracts, insolvency and business rescue, administrative and banking law, shareholder and director conflicts, corporate and competition law, and taxation matters.
Chris is admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales, the Federal Court of Australia, and the High Court of Australia as a legal practitioner, as well as the High Court of South Africa as a barrister (advocate). He holds an LLM (International Law, with Honours), an LLB, and a BCom (Law and Economics) from the University of Johannesburg.
