Overview

A partner in Colin Biggers & Paisley's Employment and Safety practice, Cormack works with clients across a diverse range of industries including government, construction, transport and logistics, financial services and faith-based enterprises. 

Cormack has over 25 years' experience, working with many of Australia's largest organisations on a range of complex safety issues including performing safety reviews, providing strategic advice to critical safety incidents, coronial inquests and representing clients under investigation or being prosecuted under state and commonwealth safety laws. 

As a former prosecutor and legal advisor to the NSW Government on safety matters, Cormack regularly presents to boards, executive teams and at industry conferences. His keynote addresses include engagements with the Safety Institute of Australia, the Kirby Lecture, and the Australian and New Zealand Institutes of Company Directors. Committed to safety excellence, he also provides ongoing training for members of the Governance Institute of Australia, focusing on effective safety leadership. 

Cormack has been recognised for the last seven consecutive years in Best Lawyers and recommended as a leading lawyer in Doyles Guide. In addition to his industry recognition, Cormac is a leading commentator and author on safety in Australia and New Zealand, authoring several publications with Wolters Kluwer including: 

  • Australian and New Zealand Master Work Health and Safety Guide 
  • Annotated Australian Work Health and Safety Legislation 
  • Planning Work Health and Safety – An Introduction to Best Practice  

Cormack holds a Bachelor of Law and was admitted to practice in New South Wales in 2003.  Cormack also holds a Diploma of Injury and Illness Protection and certificates in Criminal Prosecution and Police Studies.
