Colin Biggers & Paisley's Melbourne Planning, Government, Infrastructure and Environment team has advised Amber Property Group (Amber) on obtaining permit permission for its newest mixed-use retirement village development at 422-430 Johnston Street, Abbotsford.

Due to go to market for construction later this year, the project, designed by K2LD Architects, promises to deliver a high quality development comprising eight storeys of retirement living atop 1122 square metres of ground floor retail space in one of Victoria's major urban corridors.

Led by David Passarella, leading partner of Colin Biggers & Paisley's Melbourne Planning, Government, Infrastructure and Environment group, the matter involved acting for Amber and providing strategic planning advice in relation to a review application to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

In summarising the experience, David said:

"It was a pleasure working with the Amber team on this project and we are excited to see this high quality building go to market for development. It will provide housing for Melbourne's aging population within an accessible location surrounded by a range of community services."

Jevan Clay, Chief Operations Officer of Amber, said:

"We have engaged David Passarella on numerous occasions over the last eight years on various complex planning applications across Melbourne. David has successfully obtained approvals for the Amber Property Company and has expertly achieved favourable outcomes on each occasion."

The project is a great example of the variety of developments Amber has completed within the City of Yarra in recent years with the assistance of Colin Biggers & Paisley, alongside McLaren and Co in Fitzroy and the Motley Hotel in Richmond.
